FICDO's Community Kitchen

Our Community Kitchen caters for one-hundred-plus children during the school term (September to mid-July). We provide meals in our feeding centre before and after the children attend school. Two dozen elderly with neither a family nor the strength and resources to cook for themselves depend on the kitchen for their daily meal and survival.

Even when schools are closed, we provide the one hundred-plus children in our care with a meal twice a week in July and August. We are grateful to our volunteers and supporters who enabled us to provide this vital service.

How do we do it?

Feeding several children daily for an organisation entirely depending on donations is challenging. AT FICDO, we sought local solutions for local problems; i.e. we pool every resource in the community to drive the cost low:

  1. The local authority donated a space, which we use for storage and dining
  2. The local authority donated firewood for cooking
  3. We built a makeshift kitchen.
  4. Two cooks were hired to prepare meals
  5. We source cheap ingredients locally
  6. Volunteers run the day-to-day activities
  7. Children get meals (breakfast and lunch) before heading to school

Quick Facts about Children in FICDO's Education Program

FICDO's Education Program supports children from disadvantaged families. We are sowing seeds of hope by faith that our small actions will bear fruit. By investing in the children's education, we hope they break out of the crushing poverty that has weighed down on their parents and generations before them.
